Abstract:
This talk addresses the challenges to establish not only a common terminology but also a common understanding of concepts in general and of those in the RAMS in railways-domain in particular. To overcome the identified obstacles, it is proposed to use the iGLOSS-approach (iGLOSS – intelligent glossary) as an appropriate means to support the common way of standardisation. In addition, the general process of standardization is described as a long lasting and laborious project. The revision of the CENELEC 5012x-norms and an approach to improve these is outlined. The talk finishes with a characterization of the benefits of standards.
Short Biography of Prof. Schnieder:
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Eckehard Schnieder is head of the Institute for Traffic Safety and Automation Engineering in Braunschweig. Primary research interests are traffic safety and automation; vehicle safety and automation. He is accredited as an independent safety assessor by the German federal railway safety authority, the Eisenbahn-Bundesamt (EBA), and as an independent expert in the field of railway safety by the European Railway Agency (ERA). He is a visiting Professor at the University of Zilina (SK) and was coordinator of the Co-ordination Action SELCAT (Safer European Level Crossing Appraisal and Technology) of the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme.
